Developing the 2025 Victorian Transmission Plan

VicGrid have commenced consulting on the next stage of the 2025 Victorian Transmission Plan through the release the Draft Victorian Transmission Plan Guidelines (2025 VTP Guidelines) and the roll out of new Renewable Energy Zones (REZ).

The Draft 2025 VTP Guidelines outline the following key steps:

Identify areas for investigation: Pinpoint the most suitable locations to explore renewable energy generation projects within the study area.

Determine desired generation capacity: Specify the required generation capacity for each area and outline timelines for bringing it online.

Identify necessary network upgrades: Highlight upgrades needed to support increased renewable energy generation.

Propose a sequence of transmission network improvements: Develop a draft 'optimal pathway' for a combination of transmission projects.

Finalise a 10-year project delivery program: Based on feedback, identify the transmission projects required over the next decade.

After finalising the 2025 VTP, detailed design will begin, refining projects and engaging more deeply with stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation.

Renewable Energy Zones (REZ)

A key implementation tool of the 2025 VTP Guidelines is the refinement of Renewable Energy Zones (REZ). Proposed REZs will feature in the draft 2025 VTP and, after consultation with industry and the community, will be included in the final guidelines. Each REZ will then undergo a statutory declaration process led by the Victorian Minister for Energy.

The declared REZs will identify priority areas for renewable energy development over the next decade, helping to shape Victoria's renewable energy future.

Dartmouth Consulting’s Role

Dartmouth Consulting is already working on renewable energy projects within the Draft REZ. Collaborating closely with authorities, agencies and local communities, we have gained valuable insights into the opportunities and constraints that will be addressed through the 2025 VTP Guidelines.
